I am meticulous about the quality of my literary output. My writing is clearly composed and well structured. I am, by nature, a compassionate writer and I often offer unique perspectives on common topics. I am organized and creative, and I have a good sense of humour. Literary Experience:

Editor:  Calvin Tidings Newsletter (Calvin Presbyterian Church) Halifax, NS
September 2005 - Present: Volunteer Position.
Duties included: Editor of the church’s quarterly newsletter. In this position, I am responsible for layout and design of this newsletter.


Communications Person: St. John’s Anglican Church, Halifax, NS
February 2002 - April 2003: Volunteer Position.
Duties included: In February of 2002, I was elected as the church’s Communications person. In this role, I prepared articles and press releases which were intended to be used by outside media sources.

Co-ordinating Editor:  Signs of The Spirit Newsletter (St. John’s Anglican Church) Halifax, NS
June 2001 - April 2003: Volunteer Position.
Duties included: In June of 2001, I became the Co-ordinating Editor of the church’s quarterly newsletter. In this position, I was responsible for the layout and design of the newsletter - both in print and on the web. I also wrote articles for the newsletter, plus I oversaw and assisted with the promotion of this publication.

Writer:  St. John’s Anglican Church, Halifax, NS
October 2000 - April 2003: Volunteer Position.
Duties included: Whenever requested by the church’s Rector, I composed and reworked prayers and other church literature.

Promotions Officer/Editor: The Venture Centre, Pasadena, NF
May 1990 - October 1991: Paid Position.
Duties included: Producing a monthly community economic newsletter for The Centre, which encompassed research, conducting interviews, interpreting information, writing original content in both non-fictional and fictional forms, proofreading and editing works of contributors. My duties also included preparing promotional material - including flyers, pamphlets, news releases, etc. - for the Centre and its tenant businesses; assisting with preparing written reports and proposals; plus general computer duties including desk-top publishing.

Director:   Disabled Persons Working Together, Toronto, ON
October 1985 - May 1989: Paid Position.
Duties included: Preparing the original written content of: grant applications; information on disabilities; the organization (for both the public and the organization's membership); the organization's policies & procedures and by-laws. I also assisted other groups in developing their written organizational mandates.

Volunteer Program Co-ordinator:  Ontario March of Dimes, Hamilton, ON
May 1983 - September 1983: Volunteer Position.
Duties included: Developing a volunteer program for this organization's Hamilton Region. Again, this encompassed the original writing of policies, procedures and mandates.

School Awareness Project Manager: Ontario March of Dimes, Hamilton, ON
February 1982 - February 1983: Paid Position.
Duties included: Working with a representative of the Hamilton Board of Education, to create a disability awareness teaching manual for use in classroom settings. This involved some creative writing in developing hypothetical situations that reflected examples of such things as the "wrong" and "right" way to interact with disabled persons, common misconceptions concerning disabilities, and basic facts about disabilities of various types. In addition to creating and researching these contents, I was also involved in interpreting this data to a primary school grade level. Since this manual was not finished by the project's termination date, I continued with this task in my personal time until the manual was completed. I was also responsible for preparing the draft and final original written content of proposals.

Accessibility Assessment Staff: Ontario March of Dimes, Hamilton, ON
August 1981: Paid Position.
Duties included: Preparing written a written evaluation as to what renovations would have to be made to selected apartment buildings within Hamilton, Ontario, in order to allow people with disabilities to live in the apartments.

Project Staff: Hamilton Public Library, Hamilton, ON
May 1981 - July 1981: Paid Position.
Duties included: Assisting in the establishment of the Library's Resource Centre for Disabled Persons; and completing an extensive written report on the library's accessibility needs. This report was later used as a reference when accessibility changes were made to the library.

Field Placement Student: Ontario March of Dimes, Hamilton, ON
September 1980 - April 1981: College Student Placement.
Duties included: Co-ordinating a public awareness program concerning myths about people with disabilities; public speaking at seminars and workshops; and developing a written public education manual, concerning disability myths, for training new staff and volunteers with the organization. Final Grade: A

Field Placement Student: Information Burlington, (Burlington Public Library) Burlington, ON
January 1980 - April 1980: College Student Placement.
Duties included: Working independently to develop a public education program concerning myths about people with disabilities, which I would put into effect during my second year field placement, at the Ontario March of Dimes. This involved preparing written material, both hypothetical and factual, as well as preparing a forecasted timetable of activities and tasks. Final Grade: B.
